Welcome everyone
EndTheHarm.com is Faith of America’s house of conversation for people who believe it is time for Americans to erase religion-based bigotry from the future annuls of history. We look back today and see how the majority of faith communities once interpreted religious texts to justify slavery, segregation and subjugation of women. Americans, and particular faith communities, can look back and see how those historical precedents were profoundly and morally wrong.
Faith In America seeks to awaken Americans to the fact that religion-based bigotry and discrimination is still at work in society today and that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals face rejection and and condemnation everyday because of bigotry and prejudice being disguised as religious truth.
They are made to feel unworthy and morally depraved. They are made to think that they must change if they are ever to be accepted by others. They are told they have been rejected by God. They are rejected by their parents. They are the victims of physical assault and murder.
All because there are certain religious/political factions within our society that promote a social climate of rejection and condemnation under the guise of religious truth or traditional family values.
It must end today.
Faith In America has been working since 2006 to achieve that goal.
We are not a religious organization. We do not promote a doctrine or theology nor do we seek to minimize the positive role faith plays in the lives of many Americans. Our discussion focuses on a particular aspect of faith that we recognize as having a detrimental effect on the lives of many Americans, particular young Americans simply because they are different.
We have faith that Americans – as they have in the past – will walk away from this hurtful and divisive misuse of religion and that they aspire this nation’s religious heritage once again be freed from those social practices which cause harm to others.
Thanks for joining this conversation. We particular hope you – regardless of your sexual orientation – will share your personal experience with religion-based bigotry and discrimination and how you see it affecting your own life.
